My name is Jason Isaacs. I was raised in San Bernardino in a traditional, faith-centered home where our daily routine revolved around our church community. In 1993, our church relocated to Highland, and the town quickly became a second home to me. Growing up in a one-car family, if my dad wasn’t home from work yet and I wanted to attend an event in town, I laced up my shoes and walked—sometimes spending nearly two and a half hours on foot just to get to Highland. Though my career eventually took me across Southern California, Highland was always where I belonged. My professional journey began back in high school in 1998, launching a long career in mechanical design and construction support management. Beyond my primary work, I’ve always stayed engaged with our community—teaching adult education classes in computers, math, and management for a local pipe trades apprenticeship, and working on side projects in television and theater. Community service has also been a central part of my life. My wife and I served together on the board of a local homeschool non-profit, I led a Southern California youth event planning organization, and I spent over a decade volunteering with the San Bernardino County Fire Department’s Emergency Communication Service (ARES) unit.
Visiting National Parks (Yellowstone & Yosemite are probably the favorites)
In 2014, with the encouragement of our oldest child; we set off on a very last minute road trip to Mount Rushmore. We went there and back in 5 days, traveling 3600 miles. After that trip we were hooked and continued to travel and visit many more parks, like… Alcatraz Island, Cabrillo, Fort Point, Golden Gate, Muir Woods, Joshua Tree, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Lincoln Memorial, National Mall and Memorial Parks, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Washington Monument, World War II Memorial, Fort Frederica, Fort Pulaski, Yellowstone, Carlsbad Caverns, Kings Mountain, Ninety Six, Mount Rushmore, Guadalupe Mountains, Bryce Canyon, Timpanogos Cave, Zion, Fossil Butte & Grand Teton (to name the ones I can think of).
Few outdoor activities match the easy charm of a day spent fishing with kids, where the simple rhythm of casting a line brings an instant sense of calm. Away from the glare of screens and the rush of daily schedules, sitting by the water creates a natural space to slow down, listen to the breeze, and enjoy quiet conversation. For children, every gentle tug on the line holds the promise of adventure, turning patience into a thrill as they watch their bobber dance on the surface. Between the shared giggles over wriggling bait and the quiet excitement of a reel humming to life, fishing mixes peaceful relaxation with unforgettable family fun, leaving you with quiet moments and big smiles long after the gear is packed away.
Hunting with my two older kids has been a lot of fun. Learning responsible wildlife management is important and being able to share that with them has become an invaluable experience to me. Aside from the responsibility of safely handling a firearm, it reinforces our first occupation of “steward” from our Creator. We hunt responsibly, within the laws while holding to the higher standard of only hunting what you need and will consume.
I truly enjoy the outdoors even it if is my own backyard. I can reset the most stressful day by sitting outside kicking my feet up on the fire pit and just being quiet. You can only top that by having the smoker going in the background. The smell of my “competition losing” pork shoulder has been known to draw the neighbors attention; or maybe just some tri-tip for the family, a double smoked ham for Easter, smoked turkey for Thanksgiving or our more recent family Christmas tradition, smoked prime rib…

I find that I can enjoy things even if I am not very good at it. But better than that is when my youngest decides he loves the same thing, and is even better at it than I am.
